Question: If you have chronic tinnitus and, by some unfortunate mechanism, become deaf, do you still hear ringing?I've had tinnitus for 6 years. Affects hearing, mood, anxiety, etc. I've asked several doctors this question with no confidant answer.

Answer: It depends on the cause of tinnitus and the cause of deafness. There is a "chain" of structures involved in hearing. At the center is the brain. If the source of the tinnitus is closer to the brain than the cause of deafness, it will persist (all else being equal).
