Question: I've been taking 50mg of niacin twice a day for my tinnitus without much discernable effect. However, as a most unexpected and pleasant side-effect, I notice that my Repetitive Strain Injury / Carpal Tunnel Syndrome tingling symptoms have been reduced! Since the niacin/tinnitus theory is that the resulting vasodilation flush allows increased blood flow nourishment for cochlear nerves, it seems to me that the flush should also benefit starved nerves in the wrist as well. Have any fellow tinnitus sufferers noticed a niacin/RSI connection? --
Answer: No - as I don't have RSI - do have tinnitus though and was taking Niacin for another problem (benign paroxysmal vertigo) with not much in the way of results, and didn't notice it affected the tinnitus either. I used Niacin years ago -- about 6 weeks, and never noticed a decrease in the tinnitus. However, I have had shoulder surgery, and an epicondoyle release (really bad Tennis Elbow) done. Maybe I should give this another try for a different reason!
