Tinnitus Maskers

Question: Does anyone have experience with high-frequency digital hearing aids? My tinnitus is very high (can't remember what frequency) but in 1993 I couldn't get maskers or hearing aid for the frequency. I've read here that high-frequency hearing aids can be unpleasant, but if (as the theory goes) by enabling the high frequencies to be heard, the tinnitus would disappear, it seems worth some unpleasantness.

Also, are there now any maskers in very high frequencies? Anybody know?

Answer: Please, look at my answer to same question in another thread from you.

We have had same question in a German T group. It seems there is no chance to disable the T by technical equipment. If it would... it would become the most effective money collecting thing...

I have 14 kHz sinus frequency in both ears using hearing aids and noisers (white noise). Hearing aids are only made for supporting speech, and this is up to 8 kHz only. So the noisers output is limited to 8 kHz, even if they could generate higher frequencies.

Because I have white noise at least 8 hours a day, this sound will make my T not that aggressive than without noisers. It's part of the retraining therapy.

Of course, if a noiser could generate same frequency like your T with a phase displacement... only then it would be able to eliminate the tone. Are you sure, your tone is as precise as being generated by technical equipment? And... there are no devices to measure the tone inside your head... and only if both phases of same tone are precisely generated you will be unable to hear a tone. Will say, as one part of the tone is not produced inside your head, IMHO it's not possible to eliminate T.

As for me, I asked several Doctors, no chance. And for retraining to hear music including my tone 14 kHz there is no such music I would accept in this range... Anyway, most Doctors are sure there is no need for retraining that you will have to hear same frequency, because... part of retraining is the idea that your auditory center will eliminate your T as an interfering noise by duration _only_ if it will recognize this noise... If you will ask your otologist for noisers you will be informed to keep the level in a range you will be able to hear your T nevertheless.
