Tinnitus Support Group

Question: You know it has been at least two years since I last visited this website and I am deeply disturbed to see that you folks are still wallowing in the verbal muck that misunderstandings and sharp tongues have created.

Where is the support??

My tinnitus has been gaining in strength, volume and distraction of life. I thought I could revisit this tinnius support group for some updates and some much needed help.....but it turns out you are the ones in need of HELP !!!

This site is a serious letdown. Can anyone direct me to another source for new information on the advancements in tinnitus research or development??

Answer: The National Institutes of Health (www.nih.gov) seem to be major sources of funding for a lot of projects related to tinnitus. I have also found a number of interesting articles on support.hearing-loss another the internet group that focuses on hearing issues.

Finally, doing a search on tinnitus research will yield numerous papers and abstracts. If you have a clue about the origin and nature of your tinnitus, that might help narrow the search. I recently came across http://www.tinnitus-research.org/home.htm which is based in the UK as is the BTA - British Tinnitus Association. Even if you are in the US, the british resources are excellent.

Some of the prominent names in the field are Jastreboff, Hazell, Levine and Jack Vernon, so using a search to obtain access to information they have written. Someone recently recommended a book by Jane Henry that several people afflicted with tinnitus are finding quite helpful according to comments I have read on another tinnitus board.
